2017 Hopski Kick-Off - the Official One

The Hopski has officially started and this year has a record 165 entries, breaking the 2006 record of 163 entries despite a "too busy" boycott by former champions (Bill Carey, Michelle Johnson) and also-rans (Rob Beck).

The Hopski field has spoken and the message is - this year's Hopski and March Madness will be a VERY wide open affair!!!  Check out the Champions' Summary Report:

N Carolina 34 20.6%
Gonzaga 26 15.8%
Duke 19 11.5%
Arizona 18 10.9%
Kentucky 15 9.1%
Kansas 14 8.5%
UCLA 14 8.5%
Villanova 12 7.3%
Louisville 4 2.4%
Michigan 3 1.8%
Baylor 1 0.6%
Vanderbilt 1 0.6%
Florida St 1 0.6%
Purdue 1 0.6%
Oregon 1 0.6%
Butler 1 0.6%

165

Sixteen different teams have been picked to win the championship this year.  This is the biggest spread of the "favorite" to take the title of any Hopski and tournament in history.  Eight teams account for 92% of our Champion picks though and not surprisingly - those eight teams are all #1 or #2 seeds except for UCLA - which was arguably snubbed by the Committee as Louisville took the last #2 seed (the Hopski makes no such errors!!).

The Pool made N. Carolina the heavy favorite in the South Regional

While in the Midwest, #1 seed Kansas is also the Pool favorite, garnering just under 1/2 of the picks:

Out West, the #2 seed Arizona and NOT Gonzaga has the title of favorite, with Florida State, the #3 seed getting very little love!

Finally, in the East, Duke edged out defending Champion Villanova from the #2 seed spot to be favorite

For those new to the Hopski, please note a plethora of reports exist on the Hopski Pool Website.  TO ACCESS THESE, CLOCK ON REPORTS AND CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

THE LEADERBOARD:  The Top 25 entries in the standings will always show up on the first page of the website.  After the 1st day, the Leaderboard and the Current Standings reports will both show how many positions entries have move up and down the standings since the previous break point.  These breaks are at 16, 32, 40, 48, 52, 56, 58, 60 and 62 games.

CHAMPIONS SUMMARY REPORT:  Summary of the teams picked to win the tournament and how many times. Michigan State leads the way with 56 entries trusting in Izzo and the Spartans.  Kansas is next with 49 and N Carolina is 3rd at 16.  11 teams have been picked to win it all this year (same as last year!).

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY REPORT:  Shows, by team, how many entries picked them to win in each round. I will change this report as the tournament progresses so it sorts by each round (unfortunately, I cannot exclude teams that have been eliminated).

CURRENT STANDINGS REPORT:  Shows the entire pool standings.  This is a 4 pager and whilst you may not win or contend to win the pool, it is certainly a worthwhile objective to finish on the 1st page (and certainly avoid the dreaded last page).  From this report as well you can click on any entry name to see the entire bracket entered by that person.

PROJECTED STANDINGS REPORT:  This is a sorted report by possible point totals, showing the maximum points an entry might get if all the remaining games go as they have picked. This reports also shows predicted champ.

TO SEE ANY ENTRY, USE PLAYER LISTING:  The player listing report lists all entries by entry name.  To see any full set of brackets that an entry includes, along with points scored each game, click directly on that entry name.

ENJOY THE GAMES AND THE HOPSKI!!
