HOOSIERS FIRE BASKETBALL COACH TOM CREAN
The Hopski and I presume the NCAA cannot be happy about the Hoosiers upstaging BOTH of their kick-offs earlier today with the announcement by Indiana University that Basketball Head Coach Tom Crean would be the ex-Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean, after 9 years of leading the Cream & Crimson that many of us, yours truly, adore. He took a program that was in utter disarray post-Kelvin Sampson and certainly gave us Indiana folks something to take great pride in again.
Certainly Coach Crean gave us some amazing memories while at IU:
The Watford Shot to beat Kentucky
The #1 seeded Hoosier loss to Syracuse - an Indiana team that included 2 lottery picks that season - but that could not score against the Orange's 2/3 zone
He certainly delivered the program back to the National scene, regardless of how this season unfortunately fell apart. There were no shortage of injuries that challenged what could have been a national title contending team - just a year after a surprise Big 10 Championships. Certainly there are a lot of "what-ifs", as if OG and Hartman had remained healthy this year, there may be no such conversation right now about a new coaching search at Indiana.
Tom Crean is a good man and a class act. He's certainly a good enough coach that he will be coaching at a major program next season. Unfortunately, his body of work over 9 years at Indiana and the product on the court was not good enough for Indiana. Coach Crean, your coaching skills may be debatable, but certainly there could not be a complaint found anywhere about your work ethic nor your class in representing Indiana Basketball. Thanks from the Hopski and Hoosier Nation!
